I wish to have a piano – Katerina, 16, Ewing sarcoma

Katerina is a sweet young girl and a great fighter, who does not stop smiling. Last year, she was called to face a difficult battle following the diagnosis of her illness. She fought hard and she won! As she can no longer engage in sports, which she loves, she decided to discover herself and evolve through music. Her new aspiration and greatest wish was to have her own piano, so she can learn how to play and immerse herself in the world of music, but most importantly it is the hope that she will leave behind all that she “cannot do”.

Reflecting on the granting of her wish, Katerina shares the story of her wish journey:

I am Katerina and I am 16 years old. I recently battled cancer, and so I had my wish granted by Make-A-Wish Greece! My wish was granted at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. Upon our arrival, we were treated to a tour of the magnificent building (clueless about everything), and I was completely awestruck by its beauty. Little did I know what awaited me next! After the tour, as we stepped outside, we stumbled upon a small band playing music. We sang along and enjoyed the moment before heading back to watch the enchanting fountain dance. As I marveled at the dancing water, the piano I had wished for was brought behind my back! I did not take any notice at all. I tried to turn around a few times only to be gently guided by my fairy to face the fountains and pretend to fly!! I laughed, thinking the photographer wanted more shots, but little did I know! When I finally turned around again, I saw the brand-new white piano, and on top of it a lovely music-themed cake. I was stunned and overwhelmed with excitement! We were all moved with joy and gratitude. A heartfelt thank you to the entire team of Make-A-Wish Greece for granting my wish. You are all truly wonderful!
